Our main man
Harry Mussels
Harry’s career on the water began in the mid 80’s as a deckhand cray fishing in the Furneaux Group of islands north east of mainland Tasmania. He then worked as a skipper managing a large-scale operation in Port Phillip Bay, before starting his own mussel farm in the waters of Flinders in 1999. His first harvest of Flinders Mussels was in early 2000.
Having been quite happy to work under the radar during his early years, there was a ‘no advertising, no marketing’ policy in place. The business grew by word of mouth and a few hand-painted sandwich boards. Flinders mussels have a reputation of being elusive, only being available for half of the year. Harry is old-school, and rolls with the seasons and the quality of his product.
